Musical Fidelity M6xi – Power and Control for High-End Systems

The Musical Fidelity M6xi is a high-end integrated amplifier designed to deliver exceptional power, control and transparency even with particularly demanding loudspeakers. An evolution of the acclaimed M6si, it combines Musical Fidelity's renowned current delivery with a modern architecture, enhanced connectivity and a completely redesigned MM/MC phono stage.

With 220 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 320 watts per channel into 4 ohms, the M6xi provides substantial dynamic headroom to control high-performance loudspeaker systems. Its Dual Mono architecture uses technology derived from Musical Fidelity's legendary 1 kW TITAN power amplifier.

Dual Mono Architecture Inspired by the TITAN

Internally, the M6xi follows a design philosophy similar to combining a preamplifier with two independent monoblock power amplifiers. This Dual Mono configuration provides excellent channel separation, stability and current delivery.

Low-distortion Darlington output stages and carefully optimised circuitry allow the M6xi to achieve THD below 0.007%, preserving detail, dynamics and transparency even at high output levels.

The preamplifier section remains fully analogue and uses a Burr-Brown stepped volume control, providing excellent channel accuracy and a stable stereo image across different listening levels.

Balanced XLR Input

In addition to its analogue RCA inputs, the Musical Fidelity M6xi features a balanced XLR input, making it particularly suitable for connection to high-end sources equipped with balanced outputs.

This connectivity makes the M6xi highly versatile in premium audio systems, allowing CD players, DACs, streamers and other sources with XLR outputs to be connected directly to the amplifier.

Integrated MM and MC Phono Stage

The Musical Fidelity M6xi incorporates a redesigned phono stage compatible with both Moving Magnet (MM) and Moving Coil (MC) cartridges, allowing a wide range of turntables to be connected directly to the amplifier.

The phono section uses careful shielding, isolation and circuit layout to minimise noise and interference, particularly important when handling the very low-level signals generated by phono cartridges.

With dedicated gain settings for MM and MC cartridges, the M6xi can become the centre of a system combining analogue and digital sources without requiring an external phono preamplifier.

HDMI eARC for TV Integration

The HDMI eARC input makes it easy to integrate a television into a genuine high-end stereo system.

Films, TV series, concerts and television programmes can benefit from the amplifier and main Hi-Fi loudspeakers, providing a significantly higher-quality audio solution than a conventional soundbar.

Digital Inputs up to 24-bit/192 kHz

The M6xi features USB-C, optical and coaxial digital inputs, allowing computers, streamers, televisions and other digital sources to be easily connected.

Digital playback supports PCM signals up to 24-bit/192 kHz.

The digital and HDMI circuitry is housed on separate boards with dedicated linear power supplies, helping to prevent high-frequency interference from reaching the amplifier's sensitive analogue sections.

Home Theatre Bypass and System Flexibility

The Home Theatre Bypass function allows the Musical Fidelity M6xi to be integrated into a home cinema system, using its powerful amplification section to drive the front left and right loudspeakers.

Pre-Out and Line-Out connections provide additional flexibility for system expansion, including the use of external power amplification and other advanced configurations.

For custom installation and automation systems, the M6xi also includes RS232 and Trigger connectivity.

High-End Construction and Shielding

The robust metal chassis and substantial aluminium front panel help reduce vibration while providing effective shielding against electromagnetic interference.

Inside, the main transformer and power supply board are also carefully shielded by metal structures, reducing the influence of electromagnetic fields on the amplifier's more sensitive audio circuitry.
