Unlike some subwoofers, DALI Sub C-8 D has been designed to reproduce music and movies equally well. It is very important to DALI that its subwoofers reproduce the signal authentically. With an 8” down-fire woofer, the DALI C-8 is capable of being as faithful to the explosions of a film as it is to the harmonic vibration of the double bass.

Dali Sub C-8 D is a subwoofer developed to satisfy both audiophiles and cinephiles.

The position in the room chosen for the subwoofer is an important part of achieving perfect reproduction. DALI recommends placing SUB C-8 D in a corner or, if not possible, against a wall. This maximizes bass output and distribution throughout the room. Its compact size allows it to be placed much more easily than with larger subs. 

Throughout their more than 35 years of experience, DALI engineers have developed a series of acoustic principles. They are currently applied in the creation of any speaker from the Danish firm. As it could not be otherwise, DALI subwoofers have to be able to adapt to any equipment without sacrificing the purpose of offering wide dispersion, temporal coherence and low-loss reproduction. In addition, DALI SUB C-8 D fits both in a Home Cinema surround sound system and provides bass to a stereo configuration used for listening to music.

Amplifier

The DALI C-8 subwoofer is active and integrates a 170 W RMS Class D amplifier with linear construction. In this way it follows and reproduces the required signal with a minimum of alteration. Designed not only for constant power, but also for peak power, C-8 D is capable of delivering 220W peak, very important when it comes to music and movie signals. 

To improve sound reproduction and ensure reproduction even in difficult situations, it incorporates a limiter in the amplification section that is responsible for two aspects: comparing the amplitude of the input signal with the potential output level and comparing the available voltage of the power supply with the expected output signal. If any of those comparisons result in a potential problem, the limiter cuts the signal smoothly without affecting peak power.

It has two controls for gain, frequency cut and phase to adapt to any front speaker and room acoustics. In addition, since it has a line input and LCD, it can be connected to almost any amplifier, receiver or processor.

The switch mode of the Power Supply is one of the reasons for its low consumption – only 0.4W in Standby while the amplifier has an impressive efficiency of 70%. Together, the high-efficiency amplifier and power supply achieve minimal heat loss. Therefore, Sub C-8 D does not need or have an external heat sink.

Woofer

DALI SUB C-8 D has an 8" down-fire woofer. The cone is built with high quality paper pulp to offer rigidity with excellent characteristics while being, at the same time, very light and agile.

The woofer structure is built around a bulky ferrite magnet and optimized for maximum flux with the voice coil gap. For the DALI team it has been crucial to make the Sub C-8 reproduce even the smallest detail of the music – also at high pressure levels. Measurements indicate that DALI has achieved a level of control and precision rarely achieved in this subwoofer's price range, requiring numerous listening sessions that have made DALI engineers proud.

The voice coil is 26.5 mm and has been designed for long extrusion. It is vented to ensure system cooling and the benefits of stable impedance response. The magnet is also vented for maximum cooling and thus also reducing internal compression in the motor system. In this way, free movement of the cone is achieved without any excess or recess of pressure that could affect the reproduction.

Staying true to its low-loss design principle, the woofer surround has been constructed to allow for long, linear extrusion. The voluminous suspension has been designed to allow soft and loud passages played without any distortion in the acoustic signal.

Housing

The solid MDF casing is designed and manufactured to meet all DALI specifications. The housing is available in Black Ash or White finish, allowing it to fit seamlessly with most speaker designs and décor styles.

The entire housing is efficiently decoupled from the ground by four polymer spikes, as DALI studies have shown that with only 30mm of distance from the ground all potential turbulence between the sub and the ground is eliminated. In addition, its proximity to the ground guarantees that the full potential of a down-fire subwoofer will be realized: great efficiency and more freedom of placement.
