QUAD 33 – A British Hi-Fi Classic Reinvented for a New Generation

Fully Analogue Preamplification

Unlike many modern preamplifiers incorporating DACs, streaming or digital processing, the QUAD 33 maintains a purely analogue approach.

The circuitry has been developed to preserve signal integrity between the source and power amplifier, with particular attention paid to low noise, low distortion and channel separation.

This approach makes the QUAD 33 particularly suitable for systems where digital sources already have their own DAC or streamer and where an entirely analogue preamplification stage is preferred.

RCA and Balanced XLR Inputs

The QUAD 33 provides a modern selection of analogue connections, including two RCA line-level inputs and one balanced XLR input.

A turntable fitted with an MM cartridge can therefore be connected directly to the QUAD 33 without requiring an external phono preamplifier.

High-Precision Analogue Volume Control

One of the areas receiving particular attention during the development of the new QUAD 33 was volume control.

The system uses a high-precision analogue volume control designed to provide smooth level adjustment and excellent matching between the left and right channels.

This is particularly important at low listening levels, where small differences between channels can become more noticeable.

The Classic QUAD Tilt Control

The new QUAD 33 revives one of the most distinctive features of the company's design philosophy: the QUAD Tilt control.

Unlike conventional independent bass and treble controls, Tilt adjusts both ends of the frequency spectrum simultaneously around a central frequency. Increasing the lower frequencies proportionally reduces the higher frequencies, or vice versa.

This allows the overall tonal presentation to be made warmer or brighter with a single adjustment while maintaining a smooth and musical transition across the frequency range.

The feature can be used to compensate for differences between recordings, room acoustics or simply to adapt reproduction to personal listening preferences.

Independent Bass Control

In addition to the traditional Tilt function, the QUAD 33 incorporates an independent Bass control.

This allows subtle adjustment of the low-frequency response, which can be particularly useful depending on loudspeaker positioning, room acoustics or the tonal balance of individual recordings.

Both Tilt and Bass can be used subtly, maintaining QUAD's original philosophy of providing useful tonal correction without excessive equalisation.

RCA and Balanced XLR Outputs

The QUAD 33 provides RCA and balanced XLR outputs, offering flexible connection to different power amplifiers.

The XLR connection is particularly suitable for use with the new QUAD 303 power amplifier, creating a combination designed to work together both visually and electronically.

RCA connectivity also maintains compatibility with a very wide range of power amplifiers.
