The C. Bechstein Academy A 228 is the largest grand piano in the Academy series and is designed for players who want true grand-piano scale: projection, depth, sustain and wide dynamic headroom. With 228 cm, it’s an ideal format for dedicated rooms, demanding studios, music schools and spaces where the piano must fill the room naturally while staying clear even at higher dynamics. At MestresDaMúsica in Viseu, you get expert guidance to choose the right configuration and ensure safe delivery across mainland Portugal.
With a 228 cm grand piano, the sound becomes more open and expansive: longer strings and a larger soundboard help create deeper bass, full mids and treble with brightness and definition, while maintaining coherence and balance. The C. Bechstein Academy A 228 delivers a very convincing sound presence, with long sustain and a broad dynamic response — allowing everything from controlled pianissimos to powerful fortes with authority, without losing detail. It’s an excellent choice for demanding repertoire, expressive playing and anyone who wants a grand with real performance capability.
On a larger grand, the sense of control tends to be even more refined: the response is direct, repetition is consistent, and the instrument gives you more room to work on articulation, speed and fine intensity gradations. On the C. Bechstein Academy A 228, this translates into a more secure playing experience and an easier way to explore detail and contrast — especially in technically demanding repertoire, fast passages, trills and repetition.
This Bechstein channel video is a very suitable reference for larger grand pianos, such as the C. Bechstein Academy A 228. It shows the scale and presence of a “real” grand — how the instrument fills the space, projects sound and offers wider dynamic headroom. It’s a great way to understand the kind of experience a grand piano of this size can deliver at home, in a studio or in a dedicated music room.
This video introduces the Bechstein factory in Germany and shows the care and rigor applied throughout the manufacturing process. It helps you understand the build philosophy and quality standards behind these instruments.
C. Bechstein Connect (standard / ex works): in the Academy series, all pianos come from the factory with C. Bechstein Connect installed as standard (ex works).
Optional upgrade 1 (extra cost): Connect Pro
If you want additional/more advanced digital features beyond the standard Connect, Connect Pro can be installed as an optional upgrade. This option has its own price.
Optional upgrade 2 (extra cost): Vario Duet Silent-System
If you need to practice without disturbing others, the Vario Duet Silent-System can be installed as an optional system to play with headphones. This option has its own price.
In the C. Bechstein Academy series, there are three wood finish options: Walnut, Mahogany and Oak. For each wood, you can choose either a Satin (low-sheen) or Polished (high-gloss) finish.
Satin (low-sheen / matte)
The Satin finish has a very subtle sheen (or almost none), with a more “natural” and contemporary look. It’s ideal if you want the wood to look elegant without strong reflections.
Polished (high-gloss)
The Polished finish is the classic “high-gloss” look, with a mirror-like effect and more visual impact. It’s the finish most associated with the traditional living-room grand and a premium appearance.
Quick choice:
If you want a more discreet, practical look for everyday use, choose Satin. If you want maximum visual impact and the “classic piano look”, choose Polished.
Delivery and assembly: we deliver the piano to your door across mainland Portugal and assemble it on site (we remove it from the crate and leave everything set up and ready). If there are stairs or difficult access, transport must be quoted separately. For that reason, we ask customers to call before purchasing so we can confirm access conditions, delivery details and the final service cost.
First tuning included: we include the first tuning of the piano. For the best result, this tuning should be carried out only after about 3 weeks, so the instrument can settle and stabilize in its new environment. If the tuning is outside the Viseu district, the customer only pays the technician’s travel cost.
If you’re considering the C. Bechstein Academy A 228, talk to us before purchasing so we can confirm delivery (especially if there are stairs) and help you choose the best configuration — including Connect Pro and Vario Duet Silent-System options, if they make sense for your space.
