Defined by its creators as "A High-End turntable with the same design principles as the M8x TT but more affordable," the Musical Fidelity M6xTT brings the philosophy that gave rise to the legendary M1 (the "father" of the aforementioned M8x TT) to the Musical Fidelity M6 series. This turntable combines an inert metal alloy with resonance-free acrylic, while the motor block is decoupled from the tonearm and platter through a dual-chassis construction. Among the engineering details, a 9” (228.6 mm) tonearm stands out, with a design identical to its bigger sibling, but featuring a shorter tube, a simplified headshell design, and a direct output for a 5-pin DIN connector. The motor is supported by a special foam located on the lower level of the chassis, further reducing vibrations transmitted to the platter and tonearm. Components such as the acrylic ring in the rotation subsystem, the conical geometry of the tube, and the presence of TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer) in the two counterweights provided as standard reinforce the idea of reducing resonances to zero. The speed control, an essential element of the M6xTT, is exactly the same as in the M8x TT, while the motor is powered by a high-performance AC generator driven by DC current, ensuring maximum precision and rotational stability.
The M6xTT establishes the design philosophies of the legendary M1 turntable in our M6 line. The M1 design was created by Musical Fidelity founder Antony Michaelson and Heinz Lichtenegger – then Musical Fidelity distributor and now brand owner. The design was extremely important and needed to match the mechanically stunning amplifiers. The core idea was to combine the inert mass of metal alloys with resonance-free acrylic. The motor was effectively decoupled from the tonearm and platter thanks to the dual-chassis construction.
It was a great success and, after the M8xTT, the M6xTT is now second in line, bringing a more affordable version of this design philosophy to the market.
