Inspired by the legendary Denton 3, a bookshelf speaker marketed by Wharfedale in 1971, the Super Denton is the most recent addition to the veteran British firm's Heritage range. Regarding its acoustic configuration, it uses a bass-reflex charge with a double rear port, a solution that is also common in Wharfedale and which allows for much better control of the air mass inside the corresponding tubes. Moving on to the transducers, it must first be said that they are more advanced than those that can be found in any preceding Denton model. Thus, the woofer mounts a cone of intertwined Kevlar fibers 165 mm in diameter tuned to “lower” up to 40 Hz, an impressive range in such a compact speaker. For its part, the speaker responsible for reproducing the critical mid frequencies is a 50 mm soft dome model inspired by that of the award-winning EVO4 range, characterized by the smooth transition between bass and mid/treble and the high dispersion it provides. Finally, the restoration of the upper octaves of the spectrum is entrusted to a latest generation 25 mm soft dome tweeter, whose fundamental elements (ceramic magnetic motor and rear chamber included) come from the one used in the splendid Dovedale. The harmonization of this set of speakers is carried out by computer-optimized filtering circuitry in which, among other common High End components, air core coils and polypropylene capacitors are used, the final configuration having been decided after nothing less than, in line with Gilbert Briggs' philosophy, 1,000 hours of listening.
