The JBL 4349 studio monitor is a refined speaker system that combines the Californian firm's renowned D2415K transducer loaded into one of the innovative HDI (“High Definition Imaging”) speakers and a 300 mm diameter Pure-pulp cone woofer. The D2415K compression chamber tweeter is equipped with two extremely light polymer annular diaphragms that improve extension at high frequencies by reducing moving mass. For its part, the V-shaped geometry of these diaphragms allows for reduction of rupture modes, elimination of smearing in the time domain and reduction of distortion, resulting in spectacular dynamics and a total absence of compression. Regarding the woofer, it is a design that allows very high sound pressure levels to be achieved with extremely low distortion, thanks to such elaborate engineering solutions as the use of a 75 mm diameter voice coil and two internal suspensions – “spiders” – mounted in opposition. Regarding the Pure-pulp cone used, it stands out for its extreme lightness and rigidity, as well as for a design that helps eliminate rupture modes, the result being a perfect pistonic movement throughout the entire range of working frequencies. The two speakers described are managed by a sophisticated crossover filter that includes air-core coils, die-cast metal-wound resistors, and low-ESR metallized film capacitors.
