DALI SPEKTOR 2 compact speakers
This range of DALI speakers is made up of: , Spektor 2, and .
SPEKTOR 2. Although it is still a compact speaker, the greater internal volume of the SPEKTOR 2 compared to the SPEKTOR 1 allows for better bass reproduction. Increasing the size of the woofer to 5¼" and the soft dome tweeter to 25mm allows this model to achieve higher sound pressure, making it the perfect choice for larger rooms that still require a small speaker. The SPEKTOR 2 can also occupy any position in a surround configuration, helping the user obtain an immersive cinematic experience.
The first function of any speaker is to convert the electrical signal from the amplifier into a realistic audio experience. Any distortion or coloration of the original signal by drivers or enclosures is, by definition, a degradation of sound. At the same time, the most important function of a speaker is to ensure a home music, information and entertainment experience for the user.
The DALI SPEKTOR range, like all DALI speakers, have been designed in accordance with the brand's fundamental acoustic and electro-acoustic principles, as well as the strong belief that clear, honest and authentic acoustic reproduction will bring the user even closer to the great impact of live music performance.
In audio signals, clarity is obtained through low loss of information combined with impeccable reproduction in both time and frequency. To achieve that impeccability, drivers are the key. The success of integrating two drivers that work as one depends on many things, and can only be achieved by meticulously optimizing the driver not only for perfect frequency response in its own working area, but also beyond its limits. This attention to the surrounding area is one of the key points for a seamless experience. Using exclusively DALI designed and manufactured drivers, the need for frequency correction in the crossover is eliminated. This allows the brand to design the exact crossover that, together with quality components selected in detail, guarantees that the signal loss is close to zero.
Another fundamental point is to minimize mechanical distortion, since this interferes with the continuity of the speaker system. A discontinuous, non-linear and unstable environment poses an unnecessary challenge for the amplifier, causing the loss of detail in the signal even before it reaches the speaker. Through minimal mechanical loss, the most fragile and minute details of the sound, even at low listening levels, are preserved. This is the only way to achieve the feeling of complete transparency and vivid sound in playback.
Optimizing the audio signal to distribute it off-axis ensures that the signal that reaches the user's ear directly and the one that is reflected from the surfaces of the room arrive at the same time, achieving a coherent balance. This achieves consistent sound quality over a much wider area. At the same time, it offers great freedom and flexibility when placing the speakers.
When designing the SPEKTOR range, the Danes placed emphasis on including as many DALI technologies in the drivers as possible in this new range of speakers. This is especially notable for the woofer, where the wood fiber cones, low-loss suspension, suspension layer and magnetic motor design are crucial elements for the entire speaker.
The wood fiber cone structure is not only patented by DALI, but it is a technology that has been proven to work. By manufacturing the cone membrane from a mixture of fine grained paper and wood fiber pulp, the cones are rigid, ultra-light weight, and the irregularity of the surface helps minimize resonances.
By combining this wood fiber cone with the damping and the low-loss suspension spider, a reproduction is achieved in which even the smallest details of the signal are displayed without filters and with great efficiency.
The chassis structure, which supports the low-loss suspension, wood fiber cone, double-layer voice coil, magnetic motor system and forms the entire contact area with the front baffle, has been designed for optimal strength and airflow. Keeping the woofer structure solid eliminates internal vibrations, while improved airflow around the cone area allows for unobstructed movement that transforms much of the amplifier's energy into motion.
The tweeter must be capable of reaching high frequencies with great efficiency. This means very short excursions but high speed or, at least, great acceleration. In other words, a small moving mass and a powerful motor are needed.
The SPEKTOR range tweeter features ultra-light woven fabric. Compared to most white dome tweeters on the market, the DALI dome tweeter weighs almost half as much: 0.056 mg per mm2.
The beauty of the white dome tweeter lies in its impressive ability to reproduce even the lowest parts of the high-frequency range without the slightest bias. This is crucial when it influences the always important transfer from the tweeter to the woofer. Not having to force the tweeter or woofer to go beyond their capabilities achieves the best results, with a seamless transition and the preservation of all the details in the mid-frequency range.
The geometry of the front plate next to the tweeter dome has been optimized to create ideal working conditions for the white dome. The intention was to combine an extended frequency response with wide dispersion and low coloration.
DALI makes it easy to integrate your speakers into any room. Both the materials with which the drivers are manufactured and the geometry applied in the SPEKTOR series have been selected to achieve a wide dispersion pattern.
The user is faced with a well-integrated sound, even if it is outside the usual listening axis. And since, normally, the user does not sit directly in front of the speaker when listening to music, it is an important point.
An extra benefit is the great reduction of harmonic distortion and refractions that cause frequency distortion.
It's also why DALI speakers are designed so you don't have to get close.
