The Audiolab DC Block 6 is designed to improve the quality of AC electricity feeding audio and AV systems, helping reduce noise and interference that can compromise performance. In a typical home, the mains supply can suffer waveform distortion before it reaches each component, creating noise in the audio signal — a situation that often worsens as more electrical devices are added to the home supply.
One common issue is “DC on the mains”. In theory, wall-socket electricity should be pure AC with a perfectly symmetrical sine wave. In practice, asymmetrical loads from household devices can offset the waveform, resulting in DC voltage on the AC supply. Even relatively low levels (for example, < 500mV) can be enough to saturate toroidal transformers often found in amplifiers, adversely affecting performance and potentially causing audible mechanical vibration.
The DC Block 6 is a dual-action solution: by blocking/cancelling DC voltage within the mains supply, it corrects the DC offset and rebalances the sine wave; and it also includes an audio-class filtering circuit to help remove RFI/EMI contaminants, reducing both differential-mode and common-mode noise (including interference associated with switch-mode power supplies, Wi‑Fi networks, phones and Bluetooth).
Built as a practical system-wide solution, the DC Block 6 is a six-way device and comes with a full set of power cables: six IEC C14 to C13 cables to connect its outlets to system components, plus a cable to plug it into the mains.
